Sarah Mendez started this petition to Iona College

At Iona college, there is a noticable lack of consistency, clarity, and care in regards to the education and encouragement of recycling. As a longtime student, I have frequently noticed confusion in regards to bin placement and waste sorting, particularly in the multiple dining areas on campus. While an argument can be made that partial blame falls with the student body, not all school districts instill proper recycling habits at a young age, and Iona's failure to promote improvement in this area will further prevent them from making positive change. We need to set an example for our students and the community at large.

By signing this petition, you show your support for the following proposals:

-Accessible recycling bins in all high-traffic areas of campus. Bins designed only for the disposal of cans or cups are not sufficient.

-Composting bins for food items and liquids in all dining areas.

-Consistant bin placement and labelling. Particularly in the Vitanza Commons, bins will often be placed behind the wrong labels (or without them), confusing students on whether to heed the label, the color of the bin itself, or a general assessment of the visible contents. This ambiguity must be gotten rid of.

-Fliers/graphics defining what waste items belong in each bin, where applicable. This is particularly needed in dining areas.

This list may be subject to change, depending on peer input.

Thank you for your time and support.
