A few weeks ago, 10 -15 women in Jharkhand (District Palamu) went to a Public Distribution Shop to inquire about subsidized ration. They hadn't received ration for four months and were concerned about their groceries and daily needs. When they reached the shop ans asked about the ration, they were abused and chased away. It didn't stop there. One of these women, 45 year old Saraswatu Devi was brutally beaten up.

On paper Public Distribution Shops are set up to provide ration to the poor at subsidized rates, in reality, this PDS dealer hadn't suplied ration for 4 months. When the women argued about this, the dealer started abusing them and asked them to walk away and not expect ration for 6 months, even though the women say that there was enough stock at his shop.

Scared, the women walked away and decided to launch a Police complaint. When Lal Mani Singh (the dealer) found out about their intentions he was furious, and along with his son Azaad Singh and 17 year old nephew Regal Singh chased them with sticks and pulled out his gun.

45 year old Saraswati Devi couldn't escape and was beaten up by these three men. She was taken to the hospital and suffered internal injuries in her chest, stomache, back and head.

I am Anil Gudia from Daltonganj in Jharkhand and through CGNET swara I am telling you about this horrific incident and the brutal beating of 45 year old Saraswati Devi when she went to ask about subsidized ration in Public distribution Shop.

I've just signed the following petition addressed to: District Magistrate.

Investigate discrimination of Saraswati Devi and 15 other Dalit Women

Dear Puja Singhal Purwar,

This is to norm you about a horrific act of untouchability that took place in yur district.

A few weeks ago, 15 women in Jharkhand (District Palamu) went to a Public Deistribution Shop to inquire about subsidized ration. They hadnt received ration for four months and were concerned about their groceries and daily needs. In return they were abused and beaten up brutally in an act of untouchablity.

While these PDS are set up to provide subsidised ration to the poor at subsidized rates, the PDS dealer hadnt suplied ration for 4 months.

When the women argued on the matter, the dealer started abusing them and asked them to walk away and not expect ration for 6 months, even though there was enough stock at his shop. The dealer questioned their dignty by saying "are you all trying to stand at the same level as upper castes"?

Scared, the women walked away and decided to launch a plice complaint, when Lal Mani singh (the dealer) found out about their intentions he was furious, and along with his son Azaad Singh and 17 year old nephew Regal Singh chased them with sticks and pulled out his gun.

45 year old Saraswati Devi couldnt manage to escape and was beaten up by these three men. She was taken to the hospital and suffered internal injuries in her chest, stomache, back and head.

Even though the complaint has been lodged with the local police station no action has been taken against these men.

Article 17 of our constitution bans untouchability and calls this act as a criminal offense. Its sad to see that in India such practices are still prevalent.

Please take immediate action on this incident and investigate this case. Lal Mani singh (the dealer), his son Azaad Singh and 17 year old nephew Regal Singh must be punished for this act.

Ensure such corrupt activities don't persist in Public Distribution shops.

Looking forward to your early action,

Sincerely,
