No public-funded Travellers Site in Inverclyde
This petition made change with 699 supporters!
At a time of tough cuts to local services in Inverclyde and surrounding areas, Inverclyde Council has agreed to pay an initial £50,000 to create a permanent Traveller & Gypsy site at Kelburn in Port Glasgow. This local beauty spot which belongs to and is paid for by the people of Inverclyde is being discarded in favour of a 12 pitch site for Travellers & Gypsy families. Throughout the years members of the travelling community have damaged local beauty spots and caused increased crime and anti-social behaviour during their stays. At a time when we have blooming tourism which includes plenty Caravan parks with paid pitches available, there is NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to provide this site. We point to recent cases such as Dale Farm, which started as an official site only to cost millions in eviction of illegal encampments as local services struggled. Sign the petition if you think the council should NOT build a permanent site for Travellers in Kelburn (and Inverclyde) at the expense and misery of the majority.
