Why this petition matters

Along Thurstaston Road and through to Village Road in Lower Heswall, there are serious concerns regarding the dangers that traffic poses to pedestrians. The main dangers are the lack of pavement available for pedestrians to keep a safe distance from passing cars.  Pavement is only present on one side of the road and in many areas the pavement is too narrow making it impossible for pushchairs and wheelchairs to pass safely.

The entrance of Heswall St Peters Primary School is situated on Thurstaston Road, there is 20 mile per hour speed which ends approximately 50 metres away from the school entrance along with two speed bumps. The speed zone signs are regularly covered by growing shrubs/hedges making it difficult for drivers to abide by the correct speed limits and the pavement is too narrow for parents to safely walk side by side their children on the walk to and from school.

There have been many incidents where passing car wing mirrors have hit parents/guardians, which could very easily have been a child's head and the consequence of this could be fatal.

It's been witnessed that once cars have passed the second speed bump, they are no longer in the 20mph speed zone and increase their speed at the most dangerous section of the road where there are blind bends, and the pavement is at its narrowest.

These concerns have been submitted to Wirral Borough Council, who acknowledge the dangers of this road.  However, as there is limited budget to address all traffic issues across Wirral, the council are only prepared to action issues that are causing the most concerns to residents.  Therefore, if you share similar concerns for the safety of this road please sign this petition in the hope that Wirral Borough Council will action these issues.
