Introducing Paid Parental Leave in Beachwood City Schools
Introducing Paid Parental Leave in Beachwood City Schools
Why this petition matters
As part of a project for Choosing to Participate in Human Rights class, we are tackling the national issue of paid parental leave in schools at a smaller scale. As it stands in Beachwood, Ohio, 12 weeks of unpaid leave upon delivery of a child are protected under the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act).
This is not enough.
To receive a little compensation, teachers can also utilize accrued 'sick days'. The problem with this, though, is that it leaves little flexibility for potential setbacks in the future, as well as the fact that women of childbearing age presumably haven't been in the profession long enough to have a substantial amount of this aforementioned paid leave.
Employees deserve better.
Employees deserve protection.
It is a matter of dignity.
It is a matter of respect.
Join us in the fight to make paid parental leave the norm, not the exception.
