Today 6th August 2022, Archie Battersbee passed away despite a determined and dignified fight by his family to keep him alive. Any parent can only give his family love, understanding and sympathy for the horrendous experience they went through especially today.
The horrific truth is that Archie became unconscious and died as a result of taking a dangerous challenge that went around as a viral video on Tik Tok which has also been implicated in the deaths of other children around the world. It is time that all social media companies are held accountable for their lack of action against dangerous content spread by them around the world. In the UK, that they should be treated as broadcasters and be subject to strict OFCOM rules with serious consequences for any breaches.
This is not about freedom of speech or censorship but to ensure the safety of the most vulnerable in society especially children whenever they are online. If you value their safety as paramount, then please send a powerful message for action to be made against these social media companies by signing this petition.
