Police training reform / defunding

Police training reform / defunding
In the UK the first body-worn video used by police to capture crime was in 2006 , since then more and more cameras and videos are being used by the public all over the world to unveil the mistreatment of those who are supposedly “guilty” .
On the 25th May 2020 , a 46 year old black man named George Floyd was handcuffed and had a police officers knee pressing into his neck for several of minutes.
the reason I am bringing awareness to this is because these are lives that are being harmed and potentially ended due to the fact police officers haven’t been trained properly and for a significant amount of time.
In the UK a training programme can last between 3 weeks - 3 months , I believe it should be longer and you should be shown in detail the right actions and the consequences you may face if not acting out the actions properly.
In a report it is said that “police academies spend about 110 hours training their recruits of firearm skills and self-defence - but just 8 hours on conflict management and meditation”.
as a result of low conflict management and meditation police officers react to crime with very little knowledge on how they should handle a situation and as a result they are putting lives in unnecessary danger , because of this they handle a situation with how they think / want to instead of how they are taught.
i also believe police officers should go through a mental health check system every couple of weeks / months to make sure they are mentally prepared and stable to work.
Those who take the test and come below target should be asked to take leave and focus on their mental well-being before returning back to work - when they do come back they will need to take another test to show they are capable.
I am raising this as an issue because I’ve seen that it doesn’t matter about your race , it happens to anyone and goes unheard and unseen.
i believe that if you can’t look into properly training those who are supposed to “protect” us , then I suggest defunding the police entirely, this way perhaps they will learn that what they are doing to other individuals IS NOT a reason for them to get paid.
When it comes to police training reform there is one subject / topic that needs to be solved the most and that is POLICE BRUTALITY.
more training should be provided for the following :
•criminal injustice
• self-defence / training / consequences
•innocence vs guilty
•criminal charges
overall I hope that more people look into this and look at the police training system as a whole and look at what is important and how to make a change for the better.
we can’t be protected by a corrupt system , or a system that is failing to have its benefits.
