Vanessa Lillie started this petition to International Thriller Writers Board

The Active Members of International Thriller Writers (ITW) sign this petition requesting that the full ITW Board step down and allow for elections of all Director positions, even those slated to be filled in October 2020, per the ITW bylaws. We request this to be a full vote by Active Members on all Board members seats. If needed, we will submit a quorum of 10 percent of ITW member signatures. These are the reasons we're calling for these resignations and vote for all Board positions (by order of occurrence):

April 15, 2020, Laurie Chandlar issued a complaint against a male member of ITW, which included a police report and additional witness, Penni Jones. The ITW Board summarily dismissed the request on April 28, 2020 with the points 1) The complaint did not take place at an ITW event and 2) she would not see the accused male member at an ITW event for another year.

June 3, 2020: The ITW Board released a statement regarding the Black Lives Matter movement that read as contrary to the efforts to ensure safety and support for Black members and communities at-large.

June 4, 2020 - The ITW Board was unable to correct their statement because of a lack of knowledge about supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, and sought outside help despite these being fundamental issues.

June 17, 2020 - Chandlar shared her resignation of the Debut Authors Chairmanship due to ITW dismissing her complaint, and the Board responded with 1) shirking responsibility for the safety of ITW members because the ITW Member accused wasn't at an ITW event and 2) blamed Chandlar for lack of information though she'd filed a formal complaint with the Board that included a police report and additional witness.

June 22, 2020 - ITW Board issued an additional statement with the name of the victim, despite purporting to give her privacy in the 6/17/20 statement, and sharing this private information about the accused crime without the consent or permission of the victim.

June 22, 2020 - ITW Board issued a revised statement still not addressing any of the concerns stated in the Petition to the Board for Answers in which over 500 people called for answers.  Nor did the Board issue an apology for the earlier statement naming the victim and crime without consent.

In summary, we do not have faith in the Board's leadership or direction they are leading ITW. We ask for your resignations in a timely manner that would allow for the election of all Board positions, including those already slated to join the Board, by the October vote as stipulated in the ITW bylaws.

We would also ask that those who resigned due to these issues outlined be allowed the opportunity to return to Active Membership.
