Prevent Tag Rugby Shorts Monopoly

This petition had 110 supporters

The sport of Tag Rugby/Tag Football is at an exciting stage of development in the Northern Hemisphere with teams from Ireland, England, France and the rest of Europe beginning to grow the game. Tag Rugby uses a specialist piece of equipment called Tag Rugby Shorts. This petition is about the regulation of Tag Rugby Shorts.

The sport is unofficially governed by a group called the International Tag Football Federation (ITF) which has recently set out a mandate that only shorts approved by them can be used in Tag Rugby competitions in all ITF member states. Note that this mandate is restricted to their competitions.

This new regulation change will ensure that customers who wish to play in their leagues and competitions have extremely limited choice in terms of what they can purchase to play their sport. One business (Oztag Australia) is now the official supplier for both the Great Britain and Ireland members. Under the new regulations if you want to purchase shorts in Ireland or Great Britain you will have to buy them from them meaning they can set whatever price they want and regardless of quality of product the customer will have no alternative.

The regulations have been brought in under the rationale of player safety and consistency. This petition is to get the ITF to adjust the mandate to support the above reasoning which is universally in the best interest of players but in a manner which allows the customer the opportunity for choice.

The same "valid objectives" can be met without restricting competition, and devaluing investment in kit to date.

Petition the ITF to release a set of Kit Guidelines (standards and parameters) which means that any supplier who can meet these guidelines on velcro type, garment material and garment length can be used. That makes the process simple.
