The recent news about the possible elimination from the Olympic program of the 60 shoots prone event, traditionally included among the sport shooting Olympic events, have shocked the world of the sport shooting and the social media.

The rifle prone event is one of the disciplines with the longest traditions, and within the shooting sport the event with highest rate of participants and the highest number of Nations participating.

Eliminating prone shooting from the Olympic program it would have effects, not only referring to the Olympic Games, but on the structure of ISSF competitions, as they would no longer organize competitions of prone shooting on the World Cups aimed for getting Olympic quota places, leaving thousands athletes who practice this sport into inactivity and without illusion.

This event fixes perfectly into the Olympic sport concept, the athletes can practice it without being professional, and may continue on a high level after they get 40 or maybe longer because it’s not necessary to take the body to an extreme stress to obtain good results, although constant training and being in very good shape is essential. We must consider the fact that, in order to practice this shooting event, the athletes needs less equipment than in other rifle disciplines like air rifle or three positions shooting. The current Olympic champion, Sergey Martinov, won the competition in London 2012, setting a new Olympic record, using an old not expensive rifle and equipment.

And talking about Equality between men and women, we can say that in this event, and in general in all sport rifle shooting disciplines, men and women obtain the same results because success it is not so much a matter of having the strongest muscles, but having the best balance and good mental training. So why not let men and women compete in the same class, fighting for the same medals (like they did before 1980) as they do in other Olympic sports like the equestrian disciplines.

For everything I said before, please keep the prone shooting event into the Olympic program.

Las recientes noticias sobre la posible eliminación de la modalidad de tiro tendido del programa olímpico, incluido tradicionalmente entre los eventos olímpicos del tiro deportivo ha conmocionado al mundo del tiro deportivo y las redes sociales.

Debemos considerar el de hecho de que para practicar esta modalidad, los deportistas necesitan menos equipamiento que para otras disciplinas de carabina como serían el rifle de aire o las tres posiciones. El actual campeón olímpico, Sergey Martinov, ganó la competición en Londres 2012, estableciendo un nuevo record olímpico, usando un rifle y equipación viejos y poco caros.

Y en relación a la igualdad entre hombres y mujeres, podemos decir que en esta modalidad, y en general en todas las disciplinas de rifle, los hombres y las mujeres obtienen los mismos resultados, porque aquí el éxito no tiene tanto que ver con tener los músculos más fuertes, sino con tener el mejor balance y buen entrenamiento mental. Así, porque no dejar que los hombres y mujeres compitan en la misma categoría, luchando por las mismas medallas (como se hizo hasta 1980) y como hacen en otras disciplinas olímpicas como las especialidades ecuestres.

Por todo lo expuesto, por favor, mantengan el tiro con rifle tendido dentro del programa olímpico.
