International Olympic Committee: Keep Wrestling as an Olympic Sport

Wrestling is the oldest sport in the world and was part of the first Olympic Games. By eliminating wrestling from the Olympics, we turn our backs on the sport that carried the games to the present. By dropping wrestling, we turn our backs on the millions of boys and girls who dream of wrestling in the Olympics. Don't let the IOC turn their backs, sign this petition.

Please keep Wrestling as an Olympic sport.

The Olympic games connects us to the history of wrestling and to the honorable line of athletes, real and mythological, who wrestled before us. Through the Olympic Games we connected to wrestlers in China over 4,000 years ago, scenes of wrestling conquests that adorn ancient Egyptian tombs, and stories of Muhammad wrestling nonbelievers to submission. We connect to the stories of Hercules grappling man and beast in his twelve labours for clemency and immortality from the gods and Zeus wrestling his father Cronus for control of the Earth.

By eliminating wrestling from the Olympic games, we silence a tradition and legacy as old as the very concept of sport itself.

I ask that you reconsider your decision to drop wrestling from the 2020 Olympic Games, if not for the wrestlers, for the integrity of the entire Olympic movement.
