The devastating impact of COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten lives and livelihoods of many Kenyans. Despite the fact that there sharp decline in tax revenues due to weakening economic activities, tax relief and increase in the COVID-19 related spending, the Government of Kenya continues to utilize both fiscal and monetary policies to support the healthcare system, protect the most vulnerable households, and support firms to help preserve jobs.

As a citizen of the Republic of Kenya, I would like the IMF not to disapprove the Ksh 255 billion loan to our government. We need the loan to support our health sector to combat the pandemic. We need the loan to continue with mass testing of our citizens. We need the loan to reduce vulnerability and strengthen resilience of poorest households through access to cash. We need the loan so that our government will continue to provide our people access to basic services.

Therefore, we urge the IMF not to cancel and/or disapprove the Ksh 255 billion loan to our government. We shall repay the loan!
