Stand down in the suit against Vermont and it's GMO labeling law Act 120

This petition had 5,165 supporters

The citizens of Vermont and the United States of America want Genetically Modified Organisms labeled. In a unanimous poll, the New York Times found that 93% of citizens want GMO's labled. The GMA (made up of groups like Monsanto, Dow Chemical, Syngenta, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo) recently announced it has filed a lawsuit against the state of Vermont regarding it's GMO labeling initiative Act 120, stating that "Vermont’s mandatory GMO labeling law Act 120 is a costly and misguided measure that will set the nation on a path toward a 50-state patchwork of GMO labeling policies that do nothing to advance the health and safety of consumers," but refusing to adhere to consumer's wishes for GMO labeling hardly seems to be in the best interest of consumers' health and safety, and refusing to label GMO's is not keeping anyone safe.

Monsanto and the GMA have until now successfully blocked popular GMO labeling legislation in over 30 states. They’ve defeated, by a razor-thin margin, two high-profile ballot initiatives, in California (2012) and Washington (2013). And they’ve intimidated Connecticut and Maine into including trigger clauses in those states’ GMO labeling laws, successfully delaying their implementation.

Funding for this anti-consumer, anti-right-to-know lobbying and advertising effort topped $100 million in 2012-2014, including $12 million in illegally laundered donations to I-522, the Washington State GMO labeling ballot initiative of 2013. All of that money has come from the 300 chemical, seed, supermarket, grain, pharmaceutical and food corporations, including Monsanto and the other Gene Giants, who make up the GMA

If the GMA goes through with suing the state of Vermont, it could mean the end of GMO labeling, which is a detriment to the health and safety of consumers. If the GMA claims GMO's to be proven safe, why have we not seen a single study proving it? Why are they fighting so hard to keep their consumers in the dark? What do they have to hide?

Sign the petition to tell the GMA to stand behind their consumers, because we have a right to product transparency, consumer knowledge and the right to choose between genetically modified foods and non-GMO. We will have GMO's labeled no matter what it takes. Food manufacturers make their money off of the consumer, provide for the consumer, and WORK for the consumer. Vermonters and U.S. citizens have the RIGHT TO KNOW.
