Make Cricket an Olympic Sport
Make Cricket an Olympic Sport
Cricket, the world's 2nd most popular sport, with approximately 2.5 billion fans, is unfortunately not a part of the leading international sporting event, the Olympics.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), which governs all international cricketing events believes in the global expansion of cricket, but big cricketing nations, like India, are against this because that would dilute their power. Technically, the ICC governs all cricketing decisions, but as India is the biggest cricketing nation, it provides much of ICC's revenue, and thus has control over ICC's decisions.
By making cricket an Olympic sport, India will get diluted of its power over international cricket. But, it is time to put the interest of the game OVER the interest of one nation.
Making cricket an Olympic event is in the best interest of the sport itself. It will allow in the international expansion of the sport, which is what every true cricket fan wants -- A global, inclusive, sport.
Many argue that cricket shouldn't be an olympic sport because it's too long, but the t20 format of the game lasts 3 hours. Even if this is still an issue, a t10 format can be created instead, which will then last only 1.5 hours, the same duration of a football game.
Being a fan of cricket myself, I urge other fans, along with the sporting community to sign this petition, and make cricket, an extremely entertaining sport, an Olympic event.
