The result of today's semi-final between India & NZ broke many hearts, and fans were left to rue the vagaries of luck not favouring a team which won a staggering 8 out of the 10 matches it played. 

The tournament's round robin format was designed to reward long - term consistency. However, the business end of the tournament significantly increased the element of luck, and its impact on the end result. 

The Indian Premier League, a domestic T20 tournament, has designed a better system to reward the top 4 teams - the qualifier / playoff stages. 

If adopted, it could enhance the premium on consistency at this global stage, while limiting the impact of a bad phase of play, thus identifying and rewarding the best teams.  Logically, a best of three finals would also be a good idea, but maybe that is for another petition :)
