We, the signatories, citizens and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, members of the Innovation for Change Network, international supporters of the Sudanese people, declare our full solidarity with the Sudanese people in their ongoing peaceful quest for freedom, human dignity, social justice and equality.

We condemn the military takeover in Sudan on 25 October, the suspension of the transitional institutions, the declaration of a state of emergency and the detention of activists as well as other civilian members of the transitional government. 

We call on the international community, in particular the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), to take urgent action to restore the transitional government, and release all detained leaders and activists, as well as adopt strong measures in response to the grave and widespread violations of human rights and international humanitarian law committed by the authorities in Sudan. 

We also stress on the fundamental importance of ensuring the democratic transition in Sudan by guaranteeing the right of the Sudanese peoples to self-determination in matters relating to their internal affairs, as stated in article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. 

We urge the authorities in Sudan to allow journalists and media professionals, without restrictions, to carry out their work in covering the relevant gatherings and demonstrations by the Sudanese people and lifting all restrictions on the media and respect for press freedom. 

We strongly condemn all forms of targeting and in particular the deliberate torturing and killing of peaceful protesters and civil society activists and we demand the release of all demonstrators, civil society activists and other activists arbitrarily detained by the Sudanese authorities. 

We also declare our full solidarity with the Sudanese people in their ongoing peaceful quest for freedom, human dignity, social justice and equality, and we express our serious concern about the ongoing situation in Sudan, and the safety of the civilians, especially the Human Rights defenders, activists, and journalists who continue to protest peacefully against the military takeover, and call for the restoration of the civilian transitional government, and the release of all detained leaders.

The current situation in Sudan is another attempt to confiscate public freedoms, and aims to thwart the peaceful and democratic ongoing transition in Sudan. As signatories and civic space actors, we call on the international community to support the Sudanese people in restoring the civil transitional government.

نحن الموقعين/ات، مواطنين/ات ومنظمات مجتمع مدني في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، أعضاء شبكة الابتكار للتغيير، مؤيدين/ات الشعب السوداني، نعلن عن تضامننا الكامل مع الشعب السوداني، في سعيه السلمي المستمر بحثا عن الحرية، الكرامة الإنسانية، والعدالة الاجتماعية، والمساواة.

نستنكر الانقلاب العسكري للـ 25 من أكتوبر في السودان، ووقف عمل المؤسسات الانتقالية، وإعلان حالة الطوارئ، واعتقال النشطاء، وكذلك أعضاء الحكومة الانتقالية المدنية.

ندعو المجتمع الدولي، وبالخصوص منظمة الأمم المتحدة، ومجلس حقوق الإنسان التابع للأمم المتحدة، لاتخاذ إجراء مستعجل لاستعادة الحكومة الانتقالية، وإطلاق جميع المعتقلين/ات والنشطاء، واتخاذ خطوات جدية كاستجابة للانتهاكات الجسيمة والواسعة النطاق لحقوق الإنسان والقانون الإنساني الدولي، التي ارتكبتها السلطات السودانية.

كما نؤكد على الأهمية الأساسية لضمان الانتقال الديمقراطي في السودان من خلال ضمان حق الشعب السوداني في تقرير المصير في الأمور المتعلقة بشؤونه الداخلية، كما ورد في المادة 1 من العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية والعهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية.

نحث السلطات في السودان على السماح للصحفيين/ات ومهني/ات الإعلام - بدون أية قيود - للقيام بعملهم/ن في التغطية الإعلامية للتجمعات ومظاهرات الشعب السوداني، ورفع جميع القيود المفروضة على وسائل الإعلام واحترام حرية الصحافة.

ندين بشدة جميع أشكال الاستهداف وعلى وجه الخصوص التعذيب والقتل المتعمد للمتظاهرين السلميين ونشطاء المجتمع المدني ونطالب بالإفراج عن جميع المتظاهرين ونشطاء المجتمع المدني وغيرهم/ن من النشطاء المحتجزين/ات تعسفيا من قبل السلطات السودانية.

كما نعلن تضامننا الكامل مع الشعب السوداني في سعيه السلمي المستمر من أجل الحرية والكرامة الإنسانية والعدالة الاجتماعية والمساواة ، ونعرب عن قلقنا البالغ إزاء الوضع الحالي في السودان، وسلامة المدنيين، وخاصة المدافعين/ات عن حقوق الإنسان، النشطاء، والصحفيين/ات الذين يواصلون الاحتجاج السلمي احتجاجا على استيلاء الجيش على السلطة، ويدعون إلى إعادة الحكومة المدنية الانتقالية، والإفراج عن جميع القادة المعتقلين.

الوضع الحالي في السودان هو محاولة أخرى لمصادرة الحريات العامة، ويهدف إلى إحباط الانتقال السلمي والديمقراطي الجاري في السودان. بصفتنا موقعين/ات وفاعلين/ات في الفضاء المدني، ندعو المجتمع الدولي إلى دعم الشعب السوداني في استعادة الحكومة الانتقالية المدنية.
