I’m sharing this article in hope of using the power of social media to right a terrible wrong, which has greatly affected my family. My cousin’s husband, Jorge Noguera, accepted a position as head of the DAS (the Colombian equivalent of the FBI). In 2011, he was wrongly convicted of being party to a paramilitary criminal conspiracy. After a trial spearheaded by an overzealous prosecutor (dubbed the “Iron Prosecutor”) looking for a political scapegoat that was riddled with egregious due process violations such as the knowing introduction of perjured witnesses, and no physical evidence, Jorge was sentenced to 25 years in prison without the possibility of an appeal. Despite having petitioned the Inter-American Human Rights Commission for redress in 2013, he has not received a response, likely due to a conflict of interest stemming from the same “Iron Prosecutor” being part of the Commission until recently. Please take a look at this article for further details and then sign this petition requesting that the Inter-American Human Rights Commission review this case in accordance with Article 8 of the American Convention of Human Rights. This is a good, decent man with three children and a loving wife. In this ugly political time, we need to remember that we are still stronger together - please sign this petition and help us right the profound injustice.
