Proper Mental Health Treatment, Especially for veterans to be treated as humans
Why this petition matters
Recently my sister in law has been undergoing a mental breakdown. We went to 1 hospital in Indiana with proof of the mania and they turned her away. My brother went to the VA to get help for himself and her who both struggle with PTSD and suicide ideations, and the VA turned them away assuming it was just a marital problem. My brother said he did not want to live and they let him walk out. That could of turned out bad for him and our family. My sister in law has been hospitalized twice and both times released too soon and both with no plan of action for the family to support her. 2/5/22 she was released from St. Mary’s in Chicago IL with no notice to family, and the day prior family was notified she was delusional and speaking in the hallways where no one was. Yet they released her because she was better then she was when she got there, what’s considered better? 2/6/22 we were on a call with her stating that she wanted to drive her self off a bridge and that she feels that she would be better off dead and that would make us happy. She was alone with her pills and I had to call 911 to intervene and get her back to the hospital. My family and I have been dealing with this for months and all we want is the right help for her.
