Coverage of hearing aids for people under the age of 40
My 10 month old son, Logan, has moderate hearing loss that will require him to have hearing aids for the rest of his life. Insurance companies currently do not cover hearing aids, AT ALL! Eye glasses are used for loss of sight and are covered by insurance. Shouldn't hearing aids be covered that are used for loss of hearing?
Approximately 3 million children in the US have a hearing loss; 1.3 million of them are under the age of 3. Insurance companies don't cover the cost of hearing aids for any one of any age because the risk factor is too high in older people. Younger people, under the age of 40, have a much lower risk factor and should be able to get coverage for their hearing aids.
