UNFAIR EXAMINATIONS

UNFAIR EXAMINATIONS
All students studying at the Institute of Open Learning of Namibia had been robbed of supplementary examinations in 2020, on top of that the institute out of the blue came up with one examination slot, were students are forced to choose subjects of this year or the previous year to sit for the examinations. Something that has never been done before at the institution. For all this years up until April/May 2021 examinations students set for two examinations sessions.
The institute claims that they set this examination timetable because most of their students are in the teaching industry and they wanted to accommodate everyone. Something all students agree to be ridiculous because each employee is entitled to study leave in this country.
The same day the assignments marks where released, I.O.L opened up the examination booking for September 2021. This showed poor quality education because students where not given enough time to inquire about their assignments marks as some students got 1 or 3 marks for their assignments, nor did we get enough time to prepare for examinations and give proper notice at our work places.
On the 20th September 2021, when examinations resumed a huge blunder took place were a lot of students couldn’t download their examination paper on time because the system was messing up. Some students were unfortunate and couldn’t finish on time because it took them forever to download their exams papers and some didn’t upload because the system was not responding.
Majority of students suffered throughout the examination period because the issue of network continued.
Student demands:
1.
We want to write our subjects that we were unable to book in September/October examinations in the supplementary examinations starting on the 29 November 2021. This are subjects that we qualified for this academic year and we deserve to write them in this year.
2.
We want the institute to allow students to resubmit their questions papers they failed to upload on time because of the network/electricity problems.
3.
We want our September/October examinations marks to be released early so that students can have amble time to prepare for the examinations.
