The updated occurrence policy is far from inclusive, fair and right. No one should be given an occurrence, which is essentially like getting written up because too many occurrences lead to termination, because themselves and/or their dependent are sick. Some people do not seek medical care unless it is critical. The cost of the visit, and copays, just for the doctor to tell us what we already know to do is a waste of our time and money, especially with COVID, it is still hard to get seen right away. The update to the policy includes getting more occurrences more often and this is unacceptable. The sick leave benefit per the handbook is there to use when a person or their child gets sick, getting punished with a occurrence and/or making up all those hours on our personal time to avoid getting an occurrence makes the sick leave benefit pretty much void. Many of us cannot afford healthcare everytime one gets a cold, a migraine, vomiting, among many others including caring for a dependent, which children do get sick more often than not. The policy needs to stay as the hand book states, "2 or more consecutive days needs medical documentation," anything less, options should be to flex as much time as one can, use ones sick leave if that someone has it available, and/or take it as unpaid, without an occurrence.
