Install speed bumps and increase police presence in Water Works Park
Install speed bumps and increase police presence in Water Works Park
The Issue
There is an increased amount of reckless drivers in Des Moines' Water Works Park, creating risk to those on bicycles and pedestrians walking. The tranquil environment of the park, which should be a safe haven for recreation and relaxation, is being threatened by these dangerous driving behaviors. Without immediate action, the safety and enjoyment of everyone who utilizes this wonderful public space are compromised.
Water Works Park is a cherished community asset, frequented by families, children, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts alike. The rising instances of speeding and reckless driving, however, pose a significant danger to all visitors. According to recent observations and reports from park users, vehicles are often seen traveling at unsafe speeds, ignoring posted limits and the presence of pedestrian pathways.
To address these concerns effectively, we propose a two-pronged solution:
1. **Installation of More Permanent Speed Bumps:** By strategically placing more speed bumps throughout the park, we can physically enforce lower speeds and protect the visitors. Speed bumps have been proven to reduce vehicle speeds significantly and enhance pedestrian safety.
2. **Increased Police Presence:** Elevating police patrolling in the park can serve as a deterrent against reckless driving and ensure that traffic regulations are strictly followed. A visible law enforcement presence will reinforce the importance of safety-first driving habits among park-goers.
Taking these actions will help preserve Water Works Park as a safe, enjoyable, and serene environment for everyone. We call upon the relevant authorities and city planners to implement these measures promptly.
