Why this petition matters

Started by James Gottshall

The Wharton Soccer Club offers recreational and developmental soccer programs for kids of all ages and stages. Over the course of a year, more than 350 players participate in our programs - and the numbers are growing.

But we have a problem: Player registration costs barely cover our operating expenses. As participation in the club grows, we will continue to struggle to provide the necessary equipment for our players and coaches.

Fortunately, there is a solution. It's a big solution that will require the support of every single person in town to make it happen.

WE NEED ELECTRICITY AND RUNNING WATER!

The full-service concession stand at Robert Street Park enables our football and baseball clubs to raise thousands of dollars each year through concession sales.

Meanwhile, the Wharton Soccer Club operates out of a shed that does not have electricity or running water. And for that reason, the Town cannot issue us a health certificate to sell food. So instead of being able to raise thousands of dollars that we can use to invest back into our kids (e.g. buying lights for the fields!), we can only raise around $500 a season that barely covers our expenses.

Here's another fun fact: Wharton Soccer pays more than $2,000 per year for the Porta Johns at the fields. The other recreational programs have access to full-service bathrooms.

Please show your support for the Wharton Soccer Club by signing this petition. This is a chance for us to harness our relatively small individual voices so that the Mayor and Council hear us loud and clear:

Please invest in the town's largest recreational program by installing electricity and running water!

We need the town to at least commit to requesting proposals to determine how much this project will cost. This has been talked about for many years. Hopefully it finally gets approved for 2023. The ball is in the town’s court (pun intended).

Thank you for your support. All of our kids will thank you!
