Trans youth who have their pronouns respected are much less likely to attempt suicide than those whose pronouns are not respected. Trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender-fluid people often state their pronouns in online bios to avoid being misgendered. As this is not normalized behavior, the act of stating their pronouns outs them as non-cisgender people. This can make them a target of bullying and discrimination. If we normalize stating pronouns on social media platforms, trans people will no longer be targeted.
