Instagram + Facebook: Properly investigate posts reported for nudity, pedophilia and abuse
Instagram + Facebook: Properly investigate posts reported for nudity, pedophilia and abuse
Many people have reported accounts to Instagram and Facebook for posting nudity and sexually explicit imagery, including accounts that post child p*rnography and encourage pedophilia. However, Instagram will often ignore these reports and they will not even bother to investigate because it “does not violate Community Guidelines”. We cannot let this continue.
Another similar issue is that people receive no responses from Instagram and Facebook when they report accounts for online mental/sexual abuse and harassment. This is clearly a problem.
Finally, Facebook notifies accounts if they have been reported even before any investigation happens. This allows predators to know that people are aware of what they are doing. Therefore, we are calling on Facebook to stop sending notifications to them about reports.
Tell Instagram and Facebook to:
1. Adhere to the Community Guidelines (as presented to the public!) when reviewing posts and accounts reported for nudity, pedophilia, sexually explicit imagery and abuse/harassment.
2. Investigate reports of explicit imagery, pedophilia (including sexual content aimed at under-18s) and abuse/harassment PROPERLY. They must take down the accounts and report to law enforcement the people that post, promote or engage in any way with these vile crimes.
3. Stop notifying accounts that they have been reported. Facebook tells people that they have been reported even before any action is taken or any investigation happens.
