Unfortunately, on Instagram (and Facebook), there are many accounts catered towards pedophiles, where they post photos of children specifically for these perverts. Of course, these disgusting accounts simply should not exist, however we have seen time and time again that Instagram refuses to shut accounts like this down as they believe "people may express themselves differently". Pedophilia is never okay, and by saying this, it is clear that Instagram is enabling this behaviour to occur. Covid-19 lockdowns around the world have also causes a spike in the demand for child pornographic content and this is the perfect time to make a stand and start with a small change.

This petition should be asking Instagram to take down all these accounts. 

However, judging from their previous feedback on reported posts, it is clear that they support this behaviour and I am quite pessimistic about how that would turn out. So, we must start somewhere. I am asking that Instagram makes it easier to report this kind of activity on their site, by having a "pedophile activity" option when choosing to report a post or account. The closest option is "Nudity or sexual activity" > "involves a child", however, because these children and the photos aren't necessarily nude or explicitly sexual, it is quite common that Instagram will turn a blind eye to these posts. By adding a "pedophile activity" option, not only does this make it easier to report inappropriate posts, but it also shows that Instagram acknowledges this behaviour as wrong. It's not about the photo - it's about who they're for, and why they exist.
