Citizens Movement Against Corruption started this petition to Inspector General of Police - Ghana

The existence of armed Politically linked Militias within the borders of Ghana and the fear of the kind of violence that could potentially erupt, if such groups on opposite sides of the political divide happen to clash at any time or place in the country or if they chose to take the law into their own hands and attack innocent citizens, makes us live in insecurity. The Ghana Police Service Act (Act 350) Section 1 (1) states that: "It shall be the duty of the Police Service to prevent and detect crime, to apprehend offenders, and to maintain public order and the safety of persons and property". The Head of the institution according to Act 350 Section 4 (1) is the Inspector General of Police. Consequently we request that the IGP fulfill his obligation to the citizens of this nation, by tackling this issue now and keeping the public informed on actions taken. Addressing this issue will reduce the threat posed to citizens, enhance the peace and security we enjoy and promote our rights as citizens to security, free movement and association.
