Why this petition matters

Started by Residents for the Upgrade of Edward Street

Several safety concerns and hazards currently exist on Edward Street. In particular there is serious concern for the safety of road users and pedestrians at the intersection of Edward Street, Mungo Scott Place and Wellesley Street.

This is a location where vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians come together and frequent close calls and near misses occur as a direct result of the lack of visibility at this location and the speed of vehicles.

Vehicles regularly travel at high speeds along Edward Street as a “rat run” between Old Canterbury Road and Parramatta road in both directions and this adds to the dangerous conditions.

We are hoping various improvements can be considered to make Edward Street a safer street for all road users and local residents.

These include:

Consideration 1: Improvements needed at intersection of Edward Street, Mungo Scott Place and Wellesley Street.

Consideration 2: Traffic Calming needed on Edward Street.

Consideration 3: Marked (Zebra) Pedestrian Crossing needed on Edward Street.

Consideration 4: Resealing of Edward Street road surface.

Consideration 5: Future signalising of the intersection of Old Canterbury Road and Edward Street and possible traffic increase as a result.
