Initiate The Return of Captive Orcas, Dolphins and Sharks To Open Sea Pens

In 1986, two biologists were commissioned by the UK's Department for the Environment (now DEFRA) to undertake a lengthy review of Dolphinaria around the UK. The report resulted in various recommendations for the keeping of cetaceans (dolphins and whales) which included minimum dimensions of the enclosures they were to be kept in. Since none of the aquariums could afford to expand their containment facilities, all were gone by 1993 - save for various SeaLife Centres which have since emerged containing tiger and grey nurse sharks, amongst other species. In the US, it appears no such rules are enforced as aggressively. There is the case of Orca Lolita, enslaved within a pen at Miami Seaquarium just 20 feet deep. Morgan, originally rescued in the Wadden Sea off the coast of the Netherlands due to ill-health and was retained in captivity on agreement she would never be displayed to the public. She now resides in a show pool at Loro Parque, Tenerife. British dolphins once resident at Flamingoland, UK, are now kept at Harderwijk Dolphinarium in the Netherlands - the very same facility that rescued Orca Morgan and allegedly alluded they would never palm her off for public entertainment. SeaLife, SeaWorld, Harderwijk; there are many more around the world with far more deplorable conditions and suffering animals that should be brought to international attention. Speak up on behalf of these animals. Petition now for an outright ban on the keeping of dolphins, sharks and orcas in EVERY country. It costs more money to keep them couped up than it would to release them into sea pens to live out the the rest of their lives in a semi-natural habitat!
