The Columb Barracks Restoration and Regeneration Committee, on behalf of the Community Groups who currently occupy the Barracks, and the wider community, are requesting full public consultation on any future development of the Columb Barracks.

This historic site has been a part of Mullingar, for over 200 years, and has enormous significance for the people of the town. We want to Open The Gates of the Barracks to create a Civic Space that will include housing, education, sustainability, the circular economy, small business, arts, culture and heritage.

The CBRRC is a voluntary group of local professionals focused on ensuring the development of Columb Barracks is centered around the local community. Our primary goal is to engage with all stakeholders and broker a path forward that meets the needs of all parties and brings back life to this once thriving center of activity.

We believe that cooperation between our organisation, our community and the Land Development Agency is key to any future development of the site that will work for all stakeholders.

While we understand that the Covid19 pandemic has made public consultation on this process difficult, we are requesting that the community of groups who have been using the Barracks since 2012, and the wider community of Mullingar residents, should be consulted at an early stage by Westmeath County Council and the LDA before any plans for the Barracks site are drawn up.

Please sign our petition to show your support for a community-led development of the Columb Barracks
