No Accord in Greenlanes!

Every year, 5th & 6th Class pupils are given ‘The Talk’ about Relationships & Sexuality Education (RSE) as part of the SPHE curriculum.

We have been told that teachers in Greenlanes are unwilling to talk to their pupils about RSE and the school has traditionally outsourced this to Accord - the Catholic Church’s counselling service.

Following two referendums - the Same Sex referendum in 2015 and the more recent Repeal the 8th referendum, the people of Ireland have comprehensively rejected the Catholic Church’s views when it comes to Relationships & Sexuality Education. We therefore want Greenlanes to no longer engage the services of Accord.

This viewpoint is backed by the Minister for Education, Richard Bruton

There are alternative facilitators, such as Foróige, that can teach an inclusive and comprehensive programme that we believe is more suitable for our children in a modern Ireland.
