In the Philippines, poverty and economic inequality are major human rights issues. Certain human rights are out of reach for many inhabitants who live in poverty. They may be deprived of safe working conditions, housing, education, health care, and clean water and sanitation. Because of their poverty, they may be unable to participate in political life or defend their rights in court. They may also face discrimination or uneven treatment as a result of their poverty. Finally, due to state and local governments' rising reliance on offender-funded criminal justice systems, they may face unfair financial loads and discriminatory treatment. It is terrible that these problems and poverty endure in the Philippines, which can afford to do far more to address them.
