It's a Canadian Issue: Inequality of Indigenous Education

The education gap between Canada's Indigenous and non-Indigenous students is not an Indigenous issue, as many like to say, but it is a Canadian issue. All students deserve an equal and fair opportunity for academic success, but Canada's Indigenous students are not receiving that equal opportunity. Their schools are underfunded and under-equipped to ensure the success of their students.
It is time to change this. It is time to reevaluate the act that was introduced in 2014 but fell apart within months. The First Nations Control of First Nations Education Act, or Bill C-33, was the greatest hope for Canada to regulate and control its Indigenous education issue. This act needs to be reevaluated, keeping in mind the previous mistakes, then tabled in Parliament again and hopefully passed this time. It is time to call for real change.
