Close the funding gap for education in the Aboriginal Communities of Canada
This petition had 65 supporters
For decades, the Aboriginal communities in Canada have been neglected by the rest of the country, and have had to suffer for no apparent reason. One of the most significant ways in which they are impacted is in the aspect of education, as marginally lower funding for Aboriginal schools has caused profound and durable problems.
Perhaps the most outrageous idea is that the woes that citizens of Aboriginal communities experience are not by surprise, but manufactured. When looking at the trends for education levels and funding for schools in Aboriginal communities versus public schools, it becomes clear that people growing up in indigenous communities are automatically against the odds as the funding they receive is far worse.
What many people don't realize about the issue, is that the Aboriginal community is still a part of Canada, 4.3% of it to be exact. When they experience problems, especially at this big of a stage, the rest of Canada is negatively impacted. The Canadian Centre for the Study of Living Standards calculates that our economy would have a massive 71.1 billion dollar increase if schools in Aboriginal communities had the same level of education as public schools.
It is clear that the lack of quality education in Aboriginal communities is a major issue that will greatly impact Canada as a whole. By signing this petition, you will help convey to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada that the rest of Canada does care about it's Aboriginal communities and demand for real action to take place.
