Jeremiah Mulford started this petition to Indiana State House and

Under Current Indiana Code 9-21-13-1 there is no mention of use of a siren by funeral escort vehicles to gain the right of way. With the recent news coverage of funeral escort vehicles being involved in accidents by drivers not yielding to right of way to the funeral escort processions, Indiana Code needs to be amended to include the use of sirens to gain right of way.

Making this change will allow the Funeral Escort Vehicles to be able to use sirens to gain right of way, along with the already including flashing lights in the current Indiana code. Besides the flashing lights, the audible tones will help alert drivers to the funeral procession and help keep everyone safe on the road.

It is already a sad time for the family involved in the funeral, and amending this code, will provide and additional step in keeping safe and not having an accident mar an already tragic time for a family that is putting a loved one to rest.

Please provide your support to help make this change to help allow the Funeral Escort drivers, the tools that they need to help keep the procession safe, so that a family may make their journey to say their final goodbyes to a loved one safely.
