Indiana: prohibit insurance companies from using credit reports
This petition had 52 supporters
Indiana law allows insurance companies to base automobile insurance premiums on credit reports. This law is unfair and unjust. It is a bad law. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/car-insurance/credit-scores-affect-auto-insurance-rates/index.htm The law allows insurance companies to charge drivers with poor credit a much higher premium. Cash consumers, students and those without a credit score can pay up to 53% higher premiums than those with an excellent credit score. This forces some drivers out of the marketplace creating uninsured motorists, which forces higher premiums on those participating in the marketplace.
Insurance companies are starting to base premiums on education level too. No longer will your high school education earn you the lowest premiums.
Automobile insurance premiums should be based on driving record, vehicle type, and miles driven. Sign this petition and create a fair market for all consumers.
