We the people call on the Indiana Department of Transportation to:

Install a traffic light at one or both entrances to the South Dearborn Community School campus located on State Road 350 at Squire Pl and Highlander Pl in Aurora, Indiana.

The South Dearborn Community School campus houses the South Dearborn High School, Aurora Elementary School, and the Central Office on top of the State Road 350 hill.  With having all of these buildings there is an extreme amount of traffic with buses, student drivers, parents, and school personnel on a daily basis.  Throughout the year many events such as athletic games, contest, programs, etc also take place bringing with them an increased amount of traffic.  When attempting to exit at either end of the campus it can be very dangerous having to pull out onto a state highway.  Over the years there have been more than 100 accidents some being minor others resulting in serious injury that have occurred at the exits of the South Dearborn campus. A traffic light would help to eliminate these accidents from occurring and make for a safer driving environment for everyone.  A traffic light would help after large events to better get everyone out safely and effectively.  They currently use officers at times to help in these situations, however an officer may not always be available.  There are many new drivers that enter and exit this campus everyday along with 100’s of other drivers.  For the safety of everyone whom visits this campus and drives the placement of a traffic light would better regulate traffic, make it safer, and provide more cautious approaches for oncoming traffic.
