Abbie Davidson started this petition to Indiana Department of Health

As of early 2019, Marion County established their first needle exchange program, a mobile health unit that only operates twice a week. Adding to this, the mobile health unit only travels to two east side locations during the operating hours; therefore, it is inaccessible to many in need of the services provided. This lack of service puts people at a disadvantage and allows for a large number of dirty needles to still be present in our community. This in turn can increase the number of opioid related illnesses caused by dirty needles in Marion County. I propose that the Indiana Department of Health take action by either opening a permanent needle exchange program with regular hours, or expand the locations the current mobile health unit travels to. This solution will allow for more people to use the services provided; therefore, decreasing the possibility of someone contracting one of the many diseases associated with intravenous drug use caused by dirty needles and spreading the disease to other vulnerable individuals.
