The pharmacy profession in India is governed by technical institute (AICTE) and also a professional course ,being indispensable and integral part of health care system. The pharmacy professionals can be called as backbone of health care system. It being the most overloaded and yet ignored part of the system be it the impel tat ion of DRUG ACTS, proper storage condition ,proper working condition, no involvement of pharmacist in any drug related policy or matter ignore fact that PHARMACIST being the only person having totally committed professional course which is wholly based on study of drugs ,their formulations(pharmaceutics), pharmacological effects (pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics),pharma chemistry etc. For the betterment of the patient care and motivating the professionals working in this profession government pharmacist who are just thought as mere dispenser of medicines be it a fresh joining or person setting on his retirement having at least 30 years of experience with and for medicines,his/her vast experience is hugely ignored and wasted which can be properly utilised by proper formation of cadre(hierarchically formed structure with proper demarcation of work for proper utilisation of experience ).
Pharmacy being a professional and technical course so pharmacy professionals (PHARMACIST )should be treated as technical person and should be given remuneration accordingly ,as per 6th pay commission the initial pay band should be Rs.9300 -34800 (basic pay with grade pay of Rs.4600.)
The pharmacy profession which is highly appreciated around the world by European countries, America, and so on and pharmacy professional are paid comparatively to doctors and nurses ,in contrast their is substantial pay parity in India. These circumstances leading to a souring feeling of guilt in pharmacist working in government sector and they always thought that they would have chosen a different profession or should have destituted their homeland and have setted aside their love for their country for a better reputed and paid jobs abroad.
In India most of the professionals want that their profession should be continued by their progeny be it Doctors, lawyers ,engineers etc. but pharmacy professionals beg differ and not want that their son or daughter would be pharmacy professional as they are suffering on the part of pay and stagnation in their carrier (joined as pharmacist and retired as pharmacist).
