Petition for schools to allow more room in class schedules for elective choices.
Why this petition matters
As a Senior at Waubonsie Valley High school, I look at the classes I took in my four years as a student and wish that I had more opportunity to take a larger variety of elective classes. There are so many amazing courses that our district offers in categories including art, music, business, social studies, consumer science, etc. My schedule was consumed with required courses each year which allowed room for one or maybe two elective classes each year, and this does not include certain elective classes that are stigmatized as being "optional" but required in the long run. Now I am graduating in just one more semester and I never got to take certain classes that interested me. High school is supposed to help pave a path to help decide what careers we may want to pursue in the future and what majors we choose to study in college, and I feel as if I never got to fully explore all of my choices and interests. I hope Waubonsie Valley High School and other schools in district 204 take this into consideration and improve their schedules and requirements to allow students to create a more diverse school year.
