Enact Electoral Reforms before General Elections 2014

Thirteen electoral reforms recommended by the Election Commission of India subce 1998 are pending for implementation; they include decriminalisation of politics, strengthening the election commission for making rules to help it conduct elections in a fair manner and to help people exercise their franchise without fear or favor, and others. (Details of pending recommendations can be seen at http://eci.nic.in/eci_main/electoral_ref.pdf . Existing election rules and Acts under the Peoples Representation Act are found to be weak and Indian democracy needs an online course correction because while it has been appreciated as the greatest living democracy in the world, it has also earned the dubious distinction of 'flawed democracy'. Indian democracy has been afflicted with AIDS - Alarmingly Infected Democratic System. Electoral Reformation and amendments to Peoples Representation Act and Election Rules are the vaccines and the voter is the Democratic Doctor.

In addition, please also consider making voting compulsory, prescribe maximum age limit and minimum educational qualification, provide a Recall facility for voters if the elected representatives are hopping from one party to another, indulge themselves in corrupt practices or criminal acts.

Mera Bharat Mahaan. Let us ask for reforms in all fronts that affect the common man. It is now or never. Yes We should demand and get these reforms enacted with the help of all parties and judiciary; otherwise, we will be leaving a legacy of flawed democracy for our future generations and we will be responsible for such a sorry state of affairs.
