Why this petition matters

The lack of financial literacy among young people has been a major issue  in india. It has had many negative impacts. According to a survey half of millennials feel their financial illiteracy is holding them back from making proper financial decisions.

Many adults feel students should be taught in schools about personal finance. School should be the place to prepare us for the future and teach us skills that would help us in the future. But our education system failed at preparing students for financial crises in adulthood.

Over 35% of Indians, between the ages of twenty and thirty-five, have classified themselves to have inadequate knowledge about finance and its related concepts.

The need for financial education at school arises to bridge the glaring gap among young adults in managing their own money and making better-informed choices around spending.

In addition, families could be benefited if the breadwinner knows how to deal with money that flows into their households. They become more independent and less prone to the risk of crippling debt or bankruptcy.

In conclusion, it is one of the most important skills and which will be needed throughout our lives. Teaching financial literacy in schools would stop young adults from making financial choices that would regret them throughout their lifetime.

The Solution:

Let's call on our state government as well as the central government to make financial literacy mandatory in all schools for 11th and 12th grades .

In school we learn about memorising all state capitals and the Pythagorean Theorem, both of which we never if rarely use in Adulthood.

But the crucial skills of how to purchase a home, file your taxes and building good financial habits such as saving and investing are not taught.
