Hindustan Times, Gorakhpur INDIA Updated: Aug 12, 2017 12:33 IST WHAT IS COST OF OXYGEN ?
Gorakhpur: 30 children die in 48 hours as oxygen supply at Baba Raghav Das Medical College ‘disrupted’
At least 30 children died since Thursday in Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College amid allegations that a private coontractor stopped supplying oxygen cylinders as the government-run hospital hasn’t paid dues of about Rs 70 lakh.
This is very sad and tragic ! It reminded me, my Mother was battling with a grave disease in hospital and her DAILY BILL for ONLY OXYGEN was Rs. 3600/- approx. Which was half of her daily medical bill including room charges. By God's grace and insurance provided by my employer I had some back up. It was very unnerving to face the fact that if she would have struggled with her disease for months to come, then her OXYGEN bill would be Rs. One Lakh (One Hundred Thuosand) Rs. 1,08,000/- .
When I went to Hospital Authority with my feelings about this huge bill amount, the authority asked me to show any other hospital in the city which charges less than this amount !!
I was shocked ! Why this Medical Oxygen has to be so costly ! Seems no body from Government might have felt this. Is not Medical Oxygen an essential commodity for a dying patient ? What extra special investment and technology goes in making Medical Oxygen ?
On backdrop of the UP happening, this needs to be taken by the Government of India, so if it is killing other patients across the country, in the interest of people of India cost of Medical Oxygen must be controlled and put in the list of such items.
