A slight increase in the wind speed and a light drizzle on Saturday had led a drop in pollution levels with the air quality index settling at 399 in the evening.

However, weather experts said pollution levels shot up overnight due to calm winds leading to accumulation of pollutants.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday blamed the Haryana and Punjab governments for rising pollution levels in Delhi. "The Khattar and Captain governments are forcing farmers to burn stubble, which is causing severe pollution in Delhi. Yesterday, people protested at Punjab and Haryana Bhawan and expressed their anger against the governments there," the Chief Minister said in a tweet. The air quality has remained hazardous in the national capital for the past several days.

But now its high time. We have to stop comprising. The pollution level is reaching its peak. The government shall take steps to stop pollution. Like Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded specific timelines and milestones on actions taken by the Punjab and Haryana governments on stubble burning and said that they must also be answerable for their actions. Commercial activities that release a large amount of pollution should be taken strictly care of. Planting trees should also be a major step for this.
