While hellish monsoon commutes aren’t exactly new for the citizens of Mumbai, the situation appears to be particularly grim this year. Indian roads are undoubtedly among the most dangerous in the world. Around 1,46,133 people were killed on Indian roads, states Ministry of Road Transport and Highways data. This translates to 11 deaths per 100,000 people or one life snuffed out every 3.6 seconds.

I don't just want to plainly say that thousands lost their lives due to potholes or bad roads. Please understand the gravity of this situation. 3416 families lost their dear ones because of shoddy work.

This petition is primarily launched to demand stringent rules to deal with irresponsibility on the part of the Government, Municipal Corporation and Contractors, who so far have been taking our life granted by putting a deaf ear to our inconvenience and request to make roadways a safer medium to commute.
With thousands of people either dead or injured, the time has come for the law to take its course and penalize the negligence of the people responsible for our roads.

Deaths or accidents due to bad roads should become a criminal offense on the part of the contractor and the administration under which the road falls.

Sign this petition to make accidents due to bad roads a criminal offense. Charges for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code should be pressed against both the contractors and the administration under whose jurisdiction the road falls. For years we have been taken for granted. Let us not wait until potholes or bad roads take our life one day. We don't deserve this. It is our right as citizens.
