“Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal is a constituent unit of National Counil of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. We are committed to delivering quality Teacher Education programmess both pre-service and in-service. “ states the website riebhopal.nic.in .

Now let’s look at two very important facts:

1: This college is under HRD Ministry, government of India.

2: They are committed to deliver quality educational programmes.

Now, the same college in Bhopal ‘expels’ a student because she was going through depression and wanted a one weak leave. WHY? BECAUSE THE PRESCRIPTION WAS FAKE.

WHY DID IT SEEM FAKE? BECAUSE THE DOCTOR AT AIIMS FORGOT TO SIGN THE PRESCRIPTION.

Now this is clear contravention of the spirit of the Mental Health Act of 1987.

This shows mental health care is one of the biggest unmet needs of our time. The burden of mental disorders is likely to have been underestimated because of inadequate appreciation of the inter-play between mental illness and other health disorders. There remain considerable issues of priority-setting based on the burden of health problems and of addressing inequalities in relation to determinants and solutions for health problems. The educational institutes in India at times don’t feel mental health problem is a credible reason for a person to take leave.

There should be a strict action against such institutions. Let’s together stand united in order to fight the stigma around mental health in India.
