  • The recent 2021 Local Government Elections in South Africa were generally not free and fair. Many independent candidates were treated unfairly, many voters were turned back without being offered MEC7 Forms, Presiding Officers refused to issue objection forms, Ballot Boxes left Voting Stations unsealed, groups of persons voted without being verified and IEC officials were favorable towards the ANC.

Voting stations were without MEC7 Forms for the entire voting day.

The IEC put known ANC members as presiding officers and were engaging fellow party supporters outside the voting stations and allowing them to vote even when they did not appear on the voter's roll and without MEC7 Forms.  Something they were refusing other voters.

The ANC campaigned during the election day in other areas.

ANC agents were in possession of the voters roll and a copy of the ballot paper outside voting stations and in some voting stations, they were giving incoming voters pieces of papers with names of candidates to vote for, using threats to achieve this.

IEC officials were suggestive to voters to vote the ANC.

Some voting stations closed before time and turned voters away.

In some voting stations, there were blackouts and party agents were forced to leave voting stations with IEC officials in charge of unsealed ballot boxes for over 45 minutes.

An Independent Candidate had to open a criminal case after being verbally abused by an ANC Councillor inside a voting station and after being intimidated, her party agent was assaulted in the premise of a police station  whilst she was inside opening a case.
