Why this petition matters

To the IOP City Council and Mayor: Please let the residents enjoy different food trucks on the island a couple days a week. Please significantly lower the burdens/red tape for the food trucks to be on the island.

I love the restaurants on IOP and support them 100%. However, places like Acme and Long Island Cafe are often booked solid way in advance and very difficult to get a table. I'm a loyal customer of Luke and Ollies but sometimes they stop taking orders at night if really busy. Also, finding parking to get take-out can be a complete nightmare.

The food trucks in Charleston say IOP makes it near impossible to be on the island (outside of scheduled events). Why not have 2 nights a week where food trucks are allowed on the island for residents?

A perfect place for this to occur is the IOP rec center. Away from tourists and for residents to enjoy with room to enjoy the food and kids to run around and play.

I understand the resistance from restaurants  because of the threat to take away customers. But perhaps the best time to start is in the summer and spring when restaurants are fully booked the most. And thats when tourists pack the restaurants the most as well. It's only fair since island residents are loyal customers of the restaurants and keep them filled during the winter.

Less red tape from government. More food truck access. Let's do it.
