In Pakistan, we are seeing the most serious and catastrophic impact of climate change, with 1/3rd of Pakistan flooded, 1236 confirmed dead, 40 million people affected, and 1 million homes destroyed. The UK Govt must announce £200 million in aid in response to the unprecedented crisis.

The UK Foreign Office initially pledged £1.5 million to Pakistan's emergency relief efforts, which amounted to less than 5p for each person affected by the unprecedented floods. In a letter to the foreign secretary, international development committee chair Sarah Champion said she was “embarrassed” by the UK’s pledge to provide up to £1.5 million in aid to the country.. Today, the UK stepped up support for Pakistan by announcing a further £15 million. The UK Govt announced £136 m support in the 2010 floods. The 2022 floods are much worse, while less than 10% is being done compared to 2010. Pakistan is sinking, and we must act fast by announcing £200 million in aid to the relief efforts.

Pakistan is a long-standing friend of the United Kingdom and should not be left alone in this hour of need. Liz Truss, the current Foreign Secretary and upcoming Prime Minister is requested to announce the much-required flood relief aid on the first day of assuming her office.
