History IGCSE students are given 4 main topics with several sub-topics and are expected to read, understand, answer and check 3 questions per topic in 45 minutes alone (there are 2 papers each with 2 of the topics). While this might sound like a substantial amount of time, the amount of information history students are needed to know and recall to achieve a good grade is great and the amount of detail and exam technique necessary is equally daunting. It is very difficult to finish the questions properly within the allotted time, let alone check them through and worry about spelling, grammar and handwriting. Additionally, many adults would experience great difficulty successfully completing a History IGCSE with the present time allowed (45 minutes).
